In Guatemala, Project Salud y Nutrición (PSN), implemented by Jhpiego, is seeking a Peace Corps Response Volunteer to serve 12 months as a Health Information Technology Advisor. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health, the project strengthens the implementation of the care and management model within the framework of primary health care with the participation of the public and private sectors in the areas of intervention in El Quiché and Huehuetenango .
The project contributes to the measurable improvement in the quality of integrated health and nutrition services by life cycle in 3 health area directorates, 21 municipal health districts and 400 communities. Support from a PCRV has been requested to complement, strengthen, and enhance the efforts of the project’s technology and innovation, nutrition, and adolescent/family planning advisors in local MoH offices, and the PCRV will serve in the rural communities in the Western Highlands of Guatemala, working primarily with local-level stakeholders from the Ministry of Education, municipal offices, and/or non-profit organizations. The overall objective of the project is to contribute to the reduction of chronic malnutrition, maternal, neonatal and infant mortality and mobility in Huehuetenango and El Quiché.
A PCRV with an advanced command of written and spoken Spanish and a bachelor’s degree in information and communication technology (ICT), computer science, computer programming or a similar degree is required to support the training of statistics staff and informatics of health zone directorates in the use of business intelligence tools and data analysis tools for decision-making and improving service delivery.
The PCRV will also participate and strengthen the links between the health zone directorates and the central office of the Ministry of Health on subjects related to technology and innovation in health and nutrition, with an emphasis on differentiated care for adolescents. In addition, this mission will support the creation of online tools and digital applications, with a focus on topics related to the differentiated care of adolescents, nutrition and process strengthening.
• Bachelor’s degree in information and communication technology (ICT), computer science, computer programming or similar degree.
• Experience in database design and management.
• Experience in mobile/web application development and/or software development.
• Familiarity with health information systems.
• Experience in training at the technical level and in the use of applications.
• Advanced command of written and spoken Spanish.
