The path of the left, from the politics of personal destruction to physical destruction

In the still dark hours of Wednesday morning, a man armed with a gun, knife and burglary tools was arrested outside the home of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh. The man told the police that he had come kill Kavanaugh due to the draft notice leaking in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization which could potentially overrule Roe v. Wade.

The violence of deranged lunatics is a predictable reaction to overheated political rhetoric.

Beginning with the Democrats’ disgraceful conduct during Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, they attempted to demonize him and anger their political base against him and the court at large. When the protesters during his hearings broke down the Capitol Police barricadesstormed the steps of the Capitol and broke through a line of police around the Supreme Court, Democrats did not reprimand them.

It was just the beginning. In 2020, when the court was faced with another abortion case, then-Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D.N.Y., directly threatened Kavanaugh and Judge Neil Gorsuch, shout at a crowd outside the court: “I want to tell you, Gorsuch. I want to tell you, Kavanaugh. You released the whirlwind. And you will pay the price. You won’t know what hit you if you go ahead with these horrible decisions.

The rhetoric escalated until protesters began to appear to the houses Supreme Court justices. Now Democratic politicians have calmed some down, but not because they oppose these protests. On the contrary, they have calmed down because, after urging the mob to action, they seem content to sit back and watch them move forward under the vapor of anger they have accumulated.

Although a crime to demonstrate outside the home of a judge, U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland will not apply the law. President Joe Biden refuses to condemn protesters targeting judges’ homes. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California, won’t move legislation to fund the security of judges and their families. Even Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson refused to convict the demonstrations in front of the houses of his future colleagues.

Their current silence is just as blameworthy as their initial instigation. Perhaps even more so now that there has been an attempt on the life of a judge and a firebomb from a crisis pregnancy center in Buffalo, New York.

How can we look at the Democrats’ collective shrug and conclude anything other than that they don’t particularly care that the justices are in mortal danger?

Democrats themselves have made this point about Republicans. Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, DN.Y., has did it on several occasions. Just like the former rep. Beto O’Rourke, D-Texas, among many others. But of course, when the violence is committed by people on the left, as in the case of the congressional baseball shooting or the filming at a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement Center– this talking point quietly disappears.

It’s always been clear that Democrats don’t care about the personal lives, well-being or families of conservative justices. They were happy to attempt to personally destroy Kavanaugh and Judge Amy Coney Barrett and her family. They did the same to Judge Clarence Thomas so many years ago and never stopped. They did the same for other conservative judges. Even, in some cases, to oppose it because of the color of their skin.

Democrats have no qualms about the politics of personal destruction. They may have qualms about the policy of physical destruction, though they are awfully quiet about it. In the minds of deranged lunatics like Kavanaugh’s would-be assassin, however, the line between the two is thin — and blurred by the anger Democrats have stirred up and now refuse to rein in.
